About

In the very Heart of Hillsdale, this 200 yr old Historical apartment house was once the home and law office of Merton Fitzpatrick, one of the founders of the original Republican party! Transformed from a mansion to an 8 unit complex in the late 30's,6 apartments are reserved for Airbnb guests and 2 are occupied by long term tenants who love old houses. Sitting on a quiet rustic lot in the heart of Town, the House is patiently being restored while it once again hosts visitors from near and far.

Good to know

This is a place where you can relax and make dinner at " home" in the kitchen or lay on the futon in the living room and watch movies on the 43" screen or sit in the rocking chair and read a book. If work is your thing, the office comes with a decent sized desk, a bistro table with comfy chairs, and wifi and just the right height for a conference or study session. Length of stay discounts are available: 2 days 15% off, weekly 20% off, monthly 25% off. The apartment sleeps 4, 2 in the bedroom on the double bed, and two on the living room futon which opens into a double bed.

Other Details to Note

The house is almost 200 years old. It was last purchased by the current owners in 2006, who have been repairing and restoring and upgrading and preserving the building since it was purchased. There is always a project in the works. Actually, the whole building is a work in progress. Since there was so much work needed, the apartments were rehabilitated one at a time, then rented to generate more income to rehab or repair the next item on the list. Most of the tenants and guests love old buildings and history. What started out as a business investment has now become a labor of love with most rental income being used to repair and preserve the building. Locationwise, the building is centrally located 1/2 a block from Hillsdale shops and eateries, 1/2 a block from Stocks Park and the bike path(free bike rental for each apartment if requested) about 4 blocks from the fair grounds, and across the street from police and fire depts, post office and city hall.

- No Laundry before 7am or after 10pm - Observe Quiet Hours after 10pm - After 10pm-No loud music or shouting, slamming doors, be considerate of other occupants. -Please do not make the bed before checking out. To avoid extra work and confusion, we would greatly appreciate it if you would deposit used towels, sheets, spreads, and pillow cases in laundry basket provided. Clean laundered towels and bedding are provided for each guest. -We do not allow smoking of any kind inside the house. Please be considerate of other guests. We ask that you smoke inside your vehicle or outside well away from windows and doorways so that smoke doesn't waft in the rooms. This includes Cigarette, pot, and cigar smoke. Please keep our space a safe and enjoyable place for all guests.

Neighborhood

We're in the heart of town, so its basically a commercial district with a few residential lofts and apartments on the second floor. The whole downtown is comprised mostly of individually owned small restaurants and stores and some offices so there's a good chance the person who serves you is the owner or a long time employee. If they learn your name, you will be greeted and called by your first name and it feels good. Very different from the superstores on the outskirts of town and in the big cities. Small town life, love it!

Guest Access

The laundry room on the second floor is open to guests and regular tenants. . A load of wash or drying is 2.00 in American Quarters.

Find us

There is a local bus you can ride around town for a dollar. Personally, in the warm months I ride my bike and when it gets colder I drive or walk. There is a Walmart and Tractor Supply Co. about 3 miles out of town and I drive there.
